Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Play by August Wilson

White folks don't understand the blues. They hear it come out, but they don't know how it got there. They don't understand that's life's way of talking. You don't sing to feel better. You sing 'cause that's a way of understanding life.
Staying true to the architecture of the period, I wanted to explore how to bring Ma Rainey's personality and vibrancy to the white space that was the studio. For this, I looked at how she was portrayed in advertisements and how those color were used by black artists.
