The story starts as Clara receives a Nutcracker as her gift at a toy drive. As she falls asleep in her tent, rats break in and take her toy. She follows them into the subway to then fight the Rat King. Once she defeats them she is kicked out of of the subway for not having a ticket. She comes out at Central Park where her Nutcracker comes to life and promises her to help her back home. As they walk down the park they find different flowers that perform for them. Finally, they get to Rockefeller Center where they see the Sugar Plum Fairy performing at the Rink. Clara is marvelled by the beauty of their performance but is still saddened of being so far from home. Then behind the tree, she sees her mother and then go happily back home.
